چکیده
Present address: 1 Department of Molecular Genetics, National Institute of Agrobiological Resources, Tsukuba, Japan Abstract Recent studies suggest that nitric oxide (NO), an important signaling and defense molecule in mammals, plays a key role in activating disease resistance in plants. We characterized NO production by tobacco Bright Yellow-2 cells pharmacologically after treatment with INF1, the major elicitin secreted by the late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans, prepared from Escherichia coli. NO production rapidly occurred within 1 h and reached a maximum level 3–6h after the addition of INF1. Carboxy-PTIO, a NO-specific scavenger, abolished INF1-induced NO production in a dose-dependent manner. Pretreatment of protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide and protein kinase inhibitor K252a blocked NO production 3–12h after INF1 treatment, indicating that NO production requires de novo protein synthesis and protein phosphorylation. In an investigation of the relations between NO generation and several defense responses induced by INF1, carboxy-PTIO completely suppressed activation of a 41-kDa protein kinase and cell death by INF1. Carboxy-PTIO also suppressed the induction of hypersensitive-related (hsr) genes HSR515 and HSR203J, the expression of which is strongly correlated with the hypersensitive response in plants. The results suggest that NO plays a crucial role in the induction of hypersensitive cell death.

Identification and Assessment of Fungal Diseases of Major Medicinal Plants
Medicinal plants are infected by fungal diseases. A four years survey indicated that, there are various fungal infections in roots and shoots of several medicinal plants that grown in Isfahan. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), rosemarry (Rosmarinus officinalis) and viper’s bugloss (Borago officinalis) plants were infected by Fusarium oxysporum and F. solani on roots, showing wilting and eventu...

Human fungal diseases are largely a 20th and 21st century’s phenomenon. Due to use of corticosteroids and antibacterial drug, medical developmenta are associated with increased risk for number of fungal disease. These nosocomial developments in invasive mycosis were paralleled over the last two decades by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pandemic, which has resulted in an even larger numb...
متن کاملFungal Diseases of the Respiratory Tracts-Section 4
Fusarium spp., have been recognized during the past decade to cause disseminated infection, particularly in granulocytopenic patients undergoing intensive antileukemic chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation. The lung, sinuses, and skin are the primary portals of entry. The periungual regions of the toes notably may be a particularly important site of initial invasion. Invasive Fusarium inf...
متن کاملThe Effects of Opium Addiction on the Immune System Function in Patients with Fungal Infection
Background: The use of narcotics such as opium exposes addicts as susceptible targets of different diseases so that they might easily be exposed to different diseases such as fungal infections. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of addiction to opium and fungal infection on plasma levels of certain cytokines including interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-6, IL-17, Interferon gamma (IFN-γ) a...
متن کاملHYPHOMYCETOUS FUNGAL COMMUNITY OF BARLEY PHYLLOPLANE IN EAST AZARBAIJAN PROVINCE WITH EMPHASIS ON NEW TAXA FOR IRANIAN FUNGAL FLORA
During 2002-03 forty-four different barley growing regions in East Azarbaijanprovince of Iran were sampled for epiphytic fungi. Isolation of fungi was achieved using standard methods. As the result 374 hyphomycetous isolates were obtained that were placed in 22 genera and 49 species based on colony morphology and microscopic features (Table 1). Among these, Acremonium egyptiacum, A. sclerotigen...
متن کاملOsteomyelitis and lung abscess due to Aspergillus fumigatus in a chronic granulomatous disease patient
Background and Purpose: Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is an inherited disorder of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase complex. This disorder results in recurrent life-threatening bacterial and fungal infections. Aspergillus species are the most common fungal infections in these patients. Case Report: Herein, we present a case of fungal infection in a girl wi...
